According to news reports and the San Diego Police Department, a 14-year-old boy riding an electric bicycle was fatally struck by a Tesla at the intersection of Olney Street and Balboa Avenue in Pacific Beach on Saturday night, September 12, 2026.

Police reported that the teenager was riding a Zooz e-bike northbound on Olney Street at approximately 9:20 p.m. when he entered the intersection against a red traffic signal. A 38-year-old man driving a 2023 Tesla Model 3 westbound on Balboa Avenue struck the teenager. The boy was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police said alcohol was not believed to have been a factor in the collision.
